For the three months of school downstairs teachers have been displaced as a result of black mold being removed from the lounge area as well as Mrs. Carrie Davis’s , TIS office.

Even though it has been gone for nearly three months, the mold has had a lasting impact on the school.

According to LCHS Principal Mr. Derek Lambert, the black mold was caused by a water faucet being left on during the summer and flooding the hallway.

Lambert said county maintenance personnel removed the mold during the summer.   Maintenance  had to completely strip and clean the room which included removing all office furniture, cabinetry, computers, copiers, carpeting and wallpaper.  Drywall also had to be removed in areas where the flooding happened.

Because of the damage, the downstairs lounge has been closed, leaving teachers having to find alternative locations for using the restroom, eating and copying.

Davis and the RESA VII staff members moved equipment to the upstairs lounge and to a storage area until the work is finished.

Lambert said they are in the reconstruction phase of the room.  LCHS administrators are not exactly sure of the cost of this will be.

Lambert noted that this mold is not related to the mold on the outside of the school. The mold on the outside is not a health risk. No symptoms have been reported or noticed. It is being addressed by the LC Board of Education.
