  • Thumbs up to school starting.  We never thought we would say this, but after six months, we are happy to be back.
  • Thumbs up to our school nursing personnel who have worked so diligently to ensure student and staff safety. We appreciate your efforts.
  • Thumbs up to the Boys’ Cross Country team for capturing a regional championship.  The seven-member team will advance to the state tournament October 31 in Ona. Members are Seniors Jacob Moore, Isaac McCormick, Dakota Lough; Sophomores Slate Swiger, David Hughes; Freshmen Maddox Prince and Luke Boram.
  • Thumbs up to Emily Wilfong for advancing for the girls’.  She will also compete in Ona October 31.
  • Thumbs up to the Girls’ Soccer for claiming a sectional championship and advancing to the Regional Championship.
  • Thumbs up to all coaches and athletes for dealing with COVID-19.
  • Thumbs up to Taylor Beam for winning the WV Al Neuharth Free Spirit Award.
  • Thumbs up to LCHS for earning several community-wide honors.  Mr. John Whiston was named “Best Principal”; Mr. Hunter McWhorter as recognized as “Coach of the Year” while Mrs. Beth Nichols was named “Teacher of the Year”.  Good job, Minutemen.
  • Thumbs down, a big thumbs down, to all-things-COVID-19. The directional arrows, masks, social distancing, spectator rules for event attendance, limited clubs, activities, events, and fund-raisers.  We realize the importance of staying safe in a pandemic, but we miss the way things used to be.
  • Thumbs up to the LCHS Marching Minuteman Band. We are glad to see and hear our band performing at football games. The halftime show featuring songs from the 1980’s is spectacular.
  • Thumbs up to Dr. Clay Marsh for granting us an exclusive interview about the County Alert System Map. We appreciate his time.
  • Thumbs up to our new ChromeBooks, but…
  • Thumbs down that we really need better internet in our community. The digital divide is real and happening in Lewis County.
  • Thumbs up to LCHS hosting the AA/A Regional Tournament November 7. Thanks to all who have helped organize this event.
  • Thumbs up to all who are working on the benefit dinner for former LCHS teacher Mr. Mark Workman.

    ur administrators, teachers, aides, secretaries, cooks, counselors, nurse, custodians, and bus drivers are working lots of extra hours to keep us safe.  They are being asked to work in-person and distantly.  We appreciate your efforts.

  • Thumbs up to Student Council sponsors Mrs. Hanna Cogar and Mrs. Sharon Jerden for finding an innovative way to have student elections.  Thumbs also up to the Channel 3 staff for compiling the video for our distance and in-person students.
  • Thumbs up to our Tech Staff.  They put in lots of time to get our ChromeBooks ready. Thanks, especially, for the login sheets and shortcuts.
  • Thanks to our community businesses and civic organizations who are providing free “hot spots” for our students without internet.
  • Thumbs up to each of you.  This year has not been easy on anyone, and there have been lots of disappointments.  Thumbs up for staying strong.
