Football to Finish Season

The 2017 Minutemen Football team will close out its season Oct. 27 against Liberty High School.

Highlighting the year was the 35-14 win against Preston County at the midway point of the season. Senior Jacob White had a stand-out game totaling four touchdowns in the win.

Coaches said though the record reflects a 1-8 season, the Minutemen lost four of those games by one touchdown or less.

Games Buckhannon Upshur, Robert C. Byrd, Phillip Barbour and Braxton. The Minutemen opened its season against the #1 and #2 teams in Bridgeport and Fairmont Senior.

“Obviously, it is not fun to lose close games, but hopefully our kids can use this as motivation to help get over the hump for next year,” Coach Hunter McWhorter said.

Several LCHS players were honored with individual awards.  Sophomore Jared Griffith won the Benny’s Boot Hill Kick of the Week for his kicks against Elkins and Phillip Barbour.

The play between Junior Caden Rohrbough and Jacob White earned the Connextion of the Week.

Special team member recognition will be announced at the team banquet at the end of the month.
