Newest Additions to LCHS Staff

Same faces. Different jobs. Two LCHS administrators shifted positions as a result of the principal’s job vacancy from the resignation of Mr. Derek Lambert last spring. Mr. John Whiston moved to being the school’s lone principal in June.

      Before joining LCHS, he worked in insurance business. He was also a high school history teacher both before and after his stint in the insurance industry.

     Whiston said he began working in education because he thought it would be “fun,” and he could “pull it off.” He enjoys spending time with his family outside of school.

     Mr. Dustin Cogar replaces Whiston as assistant principal. In this lateral administrative move, Cogar will handle discipline issues as well as all the other duties of the assistant principal. He began his LCHS career in what is now Mr. Richard Hardman’s field of study, teaching a variety of classes which utilized the LCHS shop. He then became the LCHS Athletic Director and Assistant Principal.

     Outside school, Cogar said he enjoys being with his family. His favorite food is steak. Smokey and the Bandit is his favorite movie. Cogar’s life motto is “One day at a time.”

      Also joining the LCHS Family is Mr. Brian Fisher, Mrs. Allison McWhorter, Mr. Seth Stemple, Mr. Chad, and Mrs. Debbie Ellis, Mr. Glen McDaniels, and Mrs. Marianne Oldaker.

     Mr. Brian Fisher took Cogar’s position of Assistant Principal/Athletic Director. He most recently worked at Robert C. Byrd High School, although he had worked at LCHS before for four years.

     He began a career in education because he enjoyed working with kids, teaching and athletics. Outside of school, he enjoys anything involving sports. His favorite food is stuffed crust pizza Hoosiers is his favorite movie. Fisher’s life motto is “The number one key to success is happiness”.

     Mrs.  Allison McWhorter took Mrs. Linda Fox’s position as school nurse. She was a OR Nurse before joining the LCHS staff. McWhorter said she enjoys being part of LC schools. She is married to Mr. Hunter McWhorter who is a history teacher and coach.  She said she and her husband enjoy giving back to the community.

      Outside of school, she enjoys being active with her two dogs, and she loves mowing grass. Her favorite food is eggs. Bridal Warsis her favorite movie, and “County Roads” is her favorite song. Mrs. McWhorter’s life motto is “Give it your all and roll with it.”

     Mr. Seth Stemple replaces Mrs. Tina Norman in the award-winning music department. Stemple was formerly the middle orchestra director for Upshur County School. He said he is teaching a variety of choral classes and hopes to continue the excellence in the curriculum, but he wants to add his own touch to the program.
“I love that people spent time teaching me, and I want to do the same,” Stemple said.

     His hobbies walking his dog and traveling.  His favorite food is meatloaf, and his favorite band is Queen. His life’s motto is “Love yourself and embrace opportunities.”  His favorite movie is “Carousel”, a musical.

     Mrs. Trinity Currence took Mrs. Connie Scott’s position as special education teacher. Mrs. Currence has worked in Barbour County as a special education teacher. She became a teacher because she wanted to make a difference for the students and their families.

    Outside of school, Currence enjoys crafting. Her favorite food is Mexican. A Walk to Remember is her favorite movie. Her favorite song is “You Make it Easy”. Her life motto is “Always stay positive”.
