“Amazing!”

For eight students and two chaperones, the Global Leaders’ Summit in Reykjavik, Iceland was a trip of a lifetime.

As participants in the summit, the students collaborated with scientists, environmentalist and leaders in renewable energy throughout the world.  They met Iceland President, Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, who was embroiled in a national controversy over finances in the days following their visit.

In addition to participating in the Global Leaders’ Summit, students toured Reykajavik, visiting museums, landmarks and other historical locations.

They took a Golden Circle Tour of geysers, visited Golfoss Waterfalls, toured a national park and swam in the Blue Lagoon.

Students agreed that the one word to summarize the five-day trip was “amazing.”

“It was truly awesome to see the different culture and the different way of life,” Brooklyn Perkey, senior, said.  She added that the trip was a “once in a lifetime” opportunity.

Perkey said Iceland’s weather was cold, and at times, rainy.  She said the weather seemed to be rather unpredictable.

The purpose of the trip was to attend the Global Summit Leaders’ Summit.  This summit was a global collaborative meeting which focused on generating ideas and information about finding renewable energy sources and the conservation of current sources of non-renewable energy.

Students participating included: Perkey, Emylee Johnston, Caleb Burchett, Hannah Seckman, Savannah Metheny, Sam Osbourne, Ashley Gifford and Drew Strader.

The chaperones were Mr. Derek Lambert, principal, and Mrs. Rhonda Perkey, parent volunteer.IMG_0132
