Popcorn, friends and a good movie were the three top answers for what would lure high school students back to the movie theater.

     “If I see a trailer or poster for a movie that looks funny or good. Especially if it has Ryan Reynolds or Brad Pitt in it,” JW Garrett, freshman, said.

     “A good movie and the drinks,” Sarah Smith, sophomore, said.

      “The popcorn,” Bo Probst, sophomore, said.

     “To hang out with friends,” Alexa Huntz, freshman, said.

Many said they were excited that theaters were re-opening and were looking forward to returning to the theater in the upcoming months.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, many theaters shut down during the pandemic, leaving teens across the nation without one of the more popular forms of entertainment. Many turned to Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus and Amazon Prime for movies.

Most students said they were excited to return to local theaters.

Now that places are opening back up, here is a sneak peek at some movies coming out in 2021 that will get you eager to go back to the theaters. 

September:

Malignant

Release Date: 9/10/21

Age Rating: R

From the creator of The Conjuring series, comes the new original horror film, Malignant. The story follows a young woman who is mortified by shocking visions. Her suffering worsens as the visions become reality. 

Dear Evan Hansen

Release Date: 9/24/21

Age Rating: PG-13

Based on the Tony award-winning musical, Dear Evan Hansen follows a high school senior who suffers from social anxiety, which causes him to struggle in school. His journey of self discovery starts because of a tragic event. TRIGGER WARNING: Does contain mentions of suicide.

October:

Ron’s Gone Wrong

Release Date: 10/22/21

Age Rating: PG

This animated movie that the whole family will enjoy is set in a world where human-like functioning robots are children’s friends. While everyone else’s robo friends are normal, Ron finds out that his robot doesn’t work quite right.

Dune

Release Date: 10/22/21

Age Rating: PG-13

Based on the classic novel by Frank Herbert, Dune follows the story of Paul Atreides, a gifted young man born into a destiny beyond his understanding. He embarks on a dangerous journey to ensure the safety of his friends and family but meets struggles and enemies along the way.

November:

King Richard

Release Date: 11/19/21

Age Rating: PG-13

King Richard follows the famous tennis legends, Serena and Venus Williams, and their rise to fame. As their father coaches them to victory, we see the unconventional household they were raised in and all the struggles they faced.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Release Date: 11/19/21

Welcome back to the Ghostbusters Universe! Taking place many years after the original movie, a single mother and her two children move to a new town. Once there, they learn that they are connected to the original Ghostbusters and their grandfather’s legacy starts to unfold.

December:

Spider-Man: No Way Home

A continuation of the Spider-Man series, Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker. Following the events after Avengers: Endgame, Peter is faced with a challenge: everyone knows his true identity. Now, he must ask for help from another MCU hero that causes the world to turn upside down. 

American Underdog

The encouraging true story of Kurt Warner, an NFL player who primarily played for the St. Louis Rams and the Arizona Cardinals. The movie follows are the ups and downs he faced before becoming the NFL MVP he is today.
