55th Commencement Set for May 21

163 members of the Class of 2021 will graduate Friday, May 21 during the 55th Commencement at LCHS.

Students said they were looking forward to the ceremony and getting a final opportunity to gather as a collective body.

Graduates will walk in on the scoreboard side in pairs to Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance” by the LCHS Concert Band under the direction of Mr. Allen Heath.

AFJROTC Cadets will present the Colors and the “National Anthem” will be played. Graduates will stand and sing the “Alma Mater”.

Graduates will be seated on the football field facing the stage near the end zone of the scoreboard side of the field.

Mr. Dustin Cogar will deliver the opening greeting.

Senior Hannah Brown will deliver the Invocation while Senior Ella McDougal will deliver the Benediction.

Senior Class President Joe Derico will welcome guests and dignitaries and then deliver his address to classmates and guests.

Valedictorian Emily Herron and Salutatorian Kristen Fisher will address the class and guests.

Mr. John Whiston will present graduates to Dr. Robin Lewis and the BOE members while Shyanna James will give a ceremonial announcement that graduates can now move their tassels.

James will also sing “My Wish” while fellow classmate Logan Skidmore will sing “Good Times”.

Graduates will file out to Elgar’s “Recessional”.

For the first time in more than two decades, the commencement ceremonies at LCHS will be conducted outside. According to Class President Derico, the event was moved outside to help keep social distancing guidelines in place to allow the maximum number of guests to attend.

Each student received 12 tickets for guests. ‘

Seating will be open with both sides of the football stadium being used.
