LCHS golfers advanced to the WV Golf Tournament after placing 2nd at Regionals. Participants at the Regional competition included Wyatt Burns, senior, Kade Richards, sophomore, Scott Underwood, sophomore, and Adam Dinkelo, sophomore. Regionals were at Stonewall Resort’s Arnold Palmer Golf Course September 26. The group shot a team total of 280, finishing behind Lincoln High School.

“Everyone on the golf team was excited for the opportunities to experience the state golf tournament. We knew walking into the event we were one of the eight best teams in the state, and we could do anything if we set our mind to it,” Wyatt Burns, senior, said.

The State Golf Tournament was played on the Robert Trent Jones Course at Olgebay Golf Resort October 4-5. The state team consisted of five players: Wyatt Burns, Kade Richards, Adam Dinkelo, Scott Underwood, and alternate, Emily Lybarger.

“The Robert Trent Jones Course at Olgebay Resort is definitely the toughest course I have ever played. The greens were very firm and fast. It definitely let the best players shine through, as you had to be nearly perfect to make a put or stick it close on approach,” Burns, said.

The team placed 8th with a two day team score of 624.

“The five golfers had a great experience and represented LCHS very well. We ended the year as one of the top eight AA schools in the state and that is something the entire team and school should be proud of. I hope that this achievement will make returning players hungry for a return trip next year,” Mr. Kenny James, coach, concluded.
