Freshman Aylah Johnson is headed to the WV State Poetry Out Loud Competition this spring in Charleston.

Johnson won the school competition with her recitation of “After the Disaster” in which she memorized and recited the poem February 2 and 3.

Freshman Carmyn Smith finished in the runner-up position by memorizing and presenting two poems. She will represent LCHS if Johnson is unable to attend.

The event is under the direction of Mr. Doug Seckman, English teacher.

Students throughout LCHS participated in classroom competitions with the top performers advancing to the school competition. The school event was completed in two days. Those advancing to Round 2 presented poems Feb. 3.

Participating were: Johnson, Smith, Jordan Aman, Fallon jennings, Makenna West, Carmyn Smith, Liam Allen, Kaiden Miller, Cadence Taggerty, Devon Johnson, Asa Krinov, Sara Burns, Courtney Boggs, Wesley Palmer, Hunter Painter, Tannah Householder, Brenlea Wilson, and Lily Garton.

Advancing to the Finals were: Johnson, Smith, Householder, Burns, Wilson, Garton, Boggs, Krinov and Palmer.
