Maids Are Optimistic About Upcoming Season

The 2021-2022 Maids basketball season is right around the corner and ready for action.

The Lady Minutemaids kicked off their season December 4 @Ripley. Both teams lost the season-opener.

The Maids stand 1-3 on the season with the first win Dec. 14 at Liberty 41-40 in OT. The Maids lost to AAA foes Buckhannon and Greenbrier East.

The team stand 1-0 in their section for post-season pairings.

This year’s goal is to head to States once again and be even more successful than last year.

“I am looking forward to the season,” Emma Post, senior, said.

The team consists of 17 girls who said they are ready to be back in action and hit the court this basketball season. There are five seniors and six juniors who serve as team leaders.

Players said one of the strengths of the team was playing defense this year.

The Maids are coached by head coach Joe Nichols and assisted by Kenton Bozic and Mackenzie Smith. It is Coach Nichols first season as head coach. Nichols served as assistant coach under Bozic last year.

Players said they are ready to shut down any team that gets in their way this season, and the coaches said they are optimistic about the season.

“Giving up is something the Lady Maids don’t plan on doing this year no matter how hard the season gets,” Elle Stump, junior, said.

Hard work and dedication are what the Maids do best for their team and their coaches. We hope to have a good season this year and accomplish the goals we have set. Never giving up and keeping a good attitude is what matters the most, win or lose,” Maggie Wyatt, grade 11, said.
