Thumbs Up and Down

Thumbs up to our awesome courtyard.  Our favorite thing? Everything!  First, we are so glad we can actually use the courtyard!  It’s a nice chance for kids to get outside and get fresh air.  We appreciate the overall improvements–it is spruced up and clean.  There is plenty of seating with benches, picnic tables, and even tables with umbrellas.  We thank everyone who helped make the courtyard a reality.  A special thanks to Mrs. Diana Garrett’s classes for weeding and planting the gardens.  It looks great!

Thumbs Up to Student Council for planning and preparing a successful week of festivities.  The lunchtime competitions for the Minuteman Musket have been a blast.  We also think having PowderPuff during school is a great idea.  We especially appreciate having the extra time. We were concerned about parents not being able to attend, but the administrators allowed parents to attend.  We do have concerns about the thuse/pep rally not in the gym.  Because we will not be facing sides, it may not be as loud or competitive.

Thumbs Up to National Honor Society for sponsoring a tailgate for the Whiston Family.  Members and sponsors coordinated the tailgate which included hot dogs, chips, drinks, and dessert for a donation.  The club also had corn hole set up in the side yard.

Proceeds from the event went to Jena and John Whiston.  Mrs. Whiston is an English/Journalism teacher at LCHS who has been on medical leave for nearly a year.  Mrs. Whiston has Lyme Disease which has caused her a variety of serious health problems which rendered her unable to work/walk for long periods of time.

Mrs. Whiston was planning to return to LCHS this year when she faced a very serious setback which kept her hospitalized for quite some time.

She is married to Mr. John Whiston, assistant principal.  They have five children.

Honor Society members wanted to assist the family in meeting medical expenses and expenses incurred from Mrs. Whiston’s time off work.
