Eight stellar athletes make up the second-ever LCHS Athletic Hall of Fame class as announced December 4 at the Annual Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet.

The inductees include Brice Cogar, Brian Fisher, Kristen Golden, Jeremy McCarty, Joe Walker, Randy White, Pam Minigh and Hunter McWhorter.

Two of the inductees, Minigh and McWhorter, are current LCHS teachers.

Inductees were introduced and had the opportunity to address those in attendance.

The ceremony featured a meal, brief address from Committee Chairperson Tim Derico and individual presentations for the eight inductees.

While this being the second ceremony, it was the first year for the students to organize it. Blue Spoon Catering catered the event. Pro-Start worked all day to make the food the event. Mrs. Johanna Cogar’s Intro to Hospitality class set up the tables and donned the cafeteria with blue and gray decorations.

The Athletic Hall of Fame was initiated by Derico who spearheaded this project as one of his last duties as principal.  He formed a committee featuring Lewis County sports enthusiasts.  Together, the committee adopted bylaws for induction into the LCHS Athletic Hall of Fame.

To get into the Hall of Fame, one would have exemplary performance in the given sport Derico said.

Derico said the inductee could be a coach, team or even a community member who has shown great support for LCHS Athletics. A member of the AHOF must be out of school for five years

Last year, the first-ever inductee to the hall of fame, Mike McKibben, an LCHS graduate and NFL player, was inducted into the hall of fame, and is an advocate in showing what Lewis County students can do when they put their mind to it.

Also inducted were the 1986 LCHS Baseball team, Eddie Williams, Richard Hiserman, Mike Fallon, John White, George Whelan, Gerry Meyers, Mel Moody and John Porterfield.

Derico said the ceremony has been well received in the community as a source of pride for LCHS athletics.
