LCHS Faces New Field Trip Policy

A new field trip policy is in place at LCHS for the 2016-17 school year.

As part of the new LC Board of Education policy, LCHS is allotted eight buses for the school year.  This excludes buses used for WVSSAC events.

“I don’t like the new policy, but I believe that it makes sense,” Claire Dever, sophomore said.

The money that’s being saved from field trips will be used toward the schools and making buses better.

Last year, many students participated in field trips ranging from tours to workshops to enrichment activities.

Furthermore, the organization sponsoring the trip will have to pay any overtime rates if the bus trip goes past times that are planned.

According to Mr. Derek Lambert, principal, after LCHS reaches the eight buses, it will be up to the individual classes, clubs, and departments to fund-raise to offset the cost of the bus.

This includes overtime.

Teachers said this new policy now makes it more challenging for students to have a better learning experience.  All trips taken last year directly correlate with WV CSO’s with pre and post education occurring.

Teachers added that many students do not have opportunities for travel outside the county, and that taking students to educational destinations is critical to the enhancement of many classes.

“I think it all makes sense with the way they are using it,” Lambert said.

Students said they hope they’re able to attend field trips, even if they have to go through the struggle of fund-raising.
