Huntington was “Feeling the Bern” in late April as presiden

tial candidate Bernie Sanders took the stage at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena to rally and later in Morgantown  in support of his campaign.

Bernie Sanders is renowned for his plan to take big money out of politics and make colleges tuition free, but it seems his main focus in Huntington was to talk about the poverty currently going on all across our state.

“The average life expectancy for a person in McDowell County, West Virginia is only 66 years old, which is unacceptable when only a few miles south in Virginia the life expectancy is 79 years old,” Senator Sanders said to the people in Huntington, talking about poor living conditions in West Virginia.

Sanders is facing Democrat front-runner Hillary Clinton on the Democratic ballot for the spring primary. It is expected to be a contentious race since Clinton has been an outspoken opponent of the coal industry.

On the Republican ballot, Donald Trump is the “presumptive” nominee as Ted Cruz and John Kasich dropped out of the race for the presidency.

West Virginia is thought to be a hot-spot for presidential candidates in the few weeks leading up to the primary election May 10.

Sanders, Clinton and Trump all have confirmed appearances scheduled throughout the Mountain State.
