Snowstorm “Jonas” Pounds Community With Snow

School Cancelled January 22 and 25

For more than 24 hours, the Lewis County community was hit with 20+ inches of snowfall January 22-23 from Snowstorm “Jonas.”
Snow started falling around 11:15 a.m. January 22 and picked up intensity throughout the day. By the time the snow stopped January 23, most parts of the county registered between 18-22 inches of new snowfall. Approximately two inches of snow from January 20 remained on the ground which caused even more accumulations.
Some LCHS students took advantage of the snow to sleigh ride, ski, go 4-Wheeler riding or make extra cash by shoveling and plowing driveways, walks, and steps.
All LCHS extracurricular events including wrestling, girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball and cheerleading were cancelled. This included games, matches and practices.
“We will post the weekly schedule for gym times after facilities are cleared and game schedules are finalized for the (upcoming) week,” Mr. Dustin Cogar, Athletic Director, posted on the LCHS Athletic site.
The LCHS School Improvement meeting, and LCHS showcase for the Lewis County Board of Education was postponed until May 9.
Most forecasts predicted the snow to start mid-day, schools were closed throughout the region January 22. Because of poor weather and road conditions, all area schools were also cancelled January 25.
